Community Involvement
I have been supporting children in Bangladesh and Mali for many, many years. And a woman in Rwanda. The support I, and others, give is focused on improving the health and well-being of people suffering deplorable living conditions.
Massachusetts Housing and Shelter Alliance
Recently, I opened an envelope that arrived along with the holiday avalanche of requests for donations to good causes. And good causes they all were. I discarded several but for some reason, I opened the envelope from MHSA, the Massachusetts Housing and Shelter Alliance.
Here is an organization whose mission is to improve the health and well-being of people suffering deplorable living conditons right here. In collaboration with 90 member agencies as well as with government and the private sector, MHSA advocates to end homelessness in Massachusetts.
Permanent homes save money
Among the many impressive things about MHSA is their commitment to measuring results, measuring how permanent housing--not beds in shelters--is cost-effective. Homelessness is very expensive for cities and towns. And ultimately affects us all. Permanent homes save money. It's as simple as that.
As a Realtor®, I work every day to manage home ownership for a largely fortunate clientele. And as a designer, I'm tasked with maximizing the experience of 'home'. Lending my support to MHSA gives me the opportunity to do the same for the least fortunate among us. I can't think of anything more important than enabling this segment of our population to move "home for good".
